Forza Motorsport 4 Unveiled At E3 2011 Forza Motorsport 4 crosses the finish line starting October 11! It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally here: Day 1 of E3 and we are finally unveiling Forza Motorsport 4 to the world! What an incredible feeling to be showing off the game so many people here at Turn 10 have been working on for the past year and more. There is so much to get to today, so many things I want to tell you about the game and all of its incredible coolness. But before I do that, let me get a little housekeeping out of the way: Welcome to the new forzamotorsport.net! You might have noticed that we’ve spruced things up around here. Gone is the stark white background and in its place we’ve added a warm enveloping dark color pallet to the site, full of blacks, and greys (and a little red here and there for effect… like racing stripes on a hot rod). Personally I love the new design—it’s both a nice refresh from our previous look, it feels like a good match to the menus you’ll see in Forza Motorsport 4, and, to me at least, it feels like the kind of place you’ll want to hang around in the coming weeks and months. We’ve got a more full-featured walkthrough of the new Web site elsewhere on the site, so head there if you’re interested. But I’m assuming most of you want to hear more about Forza 4 and, after months of keeping our collective traps shut about the game, I’m only too happy to oblige. So let’s break this down in list style. Here, in no particular order, are ten of the things I’m most excited about in Forza Motorsport 4 at E3 2011 (and, keep in mind, breaking this down to a list of just ten items was far more difficult that I thought it would be). 10) The Bernese Alps Driving at ludicrous speeds on an incredible race track is always a thrill—but driving on the edge of control while surrounded by the gorgeous snow-capped peaks of the Alps, is quite another. The Bernese Alps is our showcase track of E3… and little wonder. If you’ve seen cars in action here, you know the level of graphical detail and beauty that this track is packing. But perhaps lost amidst all that impressive scenery and incredible architecture is this simple fact: The Alps track in Forza 4 is flat-out fast. Consisting of a wonderful blend of elevation changes and a huge variety of turns, the Alps is seat-of-your-pants driving at its very best. Whether you’re attacking the long first left-hander or screaming across the bridge that leads to the start-finish line at something close to top speed, this is one of the visual highlights of FM4. For a more detailed tour of the Bernese Alps, check out our news story. 9) Cars An incredible road to drive is one thing, but let’s face facts: A track is only as great as the car in which it’s driven. At E3 2011, attendees have a chance to try out a quartet of great rides that represent the spectrum of available rides in Forza Motorsport 4. We begin with the humble Kia cee’d (which holds the distinction as the current “Reasonably Priced Car” driven by a host of celebrities on the Top Gear television show. Then there’s the all-American muscle of the 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, the agile and speedy 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and the 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO. And that’s the just the on-track cars. Over in the showroom, we’ve got seven incredibly rendered masterpieces just waiting to be explored. From Ferrari we feature the California, the 458 Italia, the 599 GTO and the Enzo. Add in the Bugatti Veyron, the McLaren F1 and the truly frightening Lamborghini Reventon and you’ve got a supercar lineup that’s at once thrilling and a feast for the eyes. And with more than 500 cars from 80 different manufacturers, the cars above are literally just scratching the surface of Forza 4’s automotive roster. Read more about the Forza Motorsport 4 cars of E3 in our news story. 8) Car Clubs There are so many ways to express your car passion in Forza 4. Between photography, tuning, painting, racing, cinematography—Forza 4 presents the player with a creative pallet that is unmatched. Yet all this flexibility brings to mind the old saying, “Noone is good at everything but everyone is good at something.” Forza 4’s new car clubs feature takes this adage to heart, allowing players to gather together and share more than just their individual skills for the good of the club. Players will also be able to mark their individual cars as “shared”, making them available to other car club members to tune, paint, and race as they please. I love the idea of car clubs making it easier for friends to come together and experience Forza 4 together. But it’s the shared cumulative club leaderboards—which will track everything from lap times to photography ratings—that promise to make the car clubs feature so compelling… why not get started on your car club’s recruiting on our forums now? 7) Rivals Mode Working together in car clubs is fun and all but let’s face facts: Sooner or later, you’re going to want to beat someone. Badly. And then you’re going to want to let them know about it. Welcome to Forza Motorsport 4’s brand new Rivals mode. Whether you’re navigating cones in an autocross event, or dialing in laps at Laguna Seca in the hopes of turning out your best possible lap time, each time you beat a friend’s score, they’ll receive an in-game message. Conversely, any time a friend knocks down one of your scores, you’ll get a message and, with the press of a button, you’ll be taken to that event where you can do your best to take back the top spot. Rivals mode isn’t limited to your friends list, however. At any time, you’ll be able to pick any score on a leaderboard and try and beat it. This is for more than simple bragging rights—you’ll earn credits for taking down scores and the higher up the leaderboard you go, the bigger the bounties you’ll earn for taking them down. Rivals mode is your chance to broadcast your accomplishments out to your friends, and to find brand new challenges along the way. 6) Jeremy Clarkson His opinions cause millions of car fans to guffaw and thousands of car engineers to quiver in their wingtips. And now Jeremy Clarkson is bringing his trademark insight and wit to Forza Motorsport 4. Between the incredibly rendered versions of some of the world’s most rare and amazing cars, and Clarkson’s one-of-a-kind commentary, Jeremy helps bring Forza 4’s cars to an entirely new level of entertainment. And that’s the just the start of Forza 4’s… 5) … Top Gear Integration Okay, I can’t tell you much about this just yet. Tell you what: Why not come back on Thursday, June 8 for more? 4) Car Experience If you were one of the lucky ones to play Forza 4 at E3, you know the driving is everything you remember… and more. But there’s more ways to experience cars in this game than turning laps at your favorite track. The brand new car experience puts you in gorgeous, high-powered beauties just begging for you to step closer… Using either Kinect or your controller, you’ll be able to explore these exquisitely rendered cars at a previously unimagined level of detail. Climb in, settle into the cockpit, fire up the engine, or step outside the car let Jeremy Clarkson take you to school with fascinating insight on this most rare of car collections. It’s an entirely new way to experience and appreciate cars. 3) Message Center Forza is all about community. Building off the integrated social features we’ve built in our previous game, Forza Motorsport 4 will keep you more in touch with everything that’s happening in the Forza community thanks to a brand new message center. Receive messages and challenges from your friend; learn about the latest challenges and contests in the community; or find out what’s happening with your car club mates. In Forza Motosport 4, the Forza world is more connected, with more to do, than ever before. 2) Online fun Online racing will be more intense Forza Motorsport 4. Don’t believe me? How about 16-player racers online? How about the return of user-hosted-public lobbies? How about a regular cadence of new hoppers and time trials designed to keep even the most skilled driver dancing on the footpedals? All that, plus brand-new game modes designed for maximum online fun. You don’t have to play online in Forza 4 to enjoy the game… but once you go online you may never want to come back. 1) Driving! OK, I said that this list wasn’t in order of importance but, let’s face it, the driving is where any racing game lives and dies. I’m happy to report that, having spent a great deal of time with the game so far, I can say with full confidence that Forza 4 is 100 percent, completely alive on the track. All the approachability that new drivers have come to expect from Forza are here in the form of new and returning assists (including auto-acceleration). And for the vets out there, we’ve added a new difficulty level that stows the assists for pure, unadulterated automotive anger. A new partnership with Pirelli means Forza 4 has the most complete and up-to-date tire data of any driving game around and the results on the track are tangible. Put simply: You’ve never driven anything like this. Now, let’s be clear—this top ten is just a starting point for me. Given enough time and enough space, I could probably draw up a list ten times this long with all of the things I can’t wait to tell you about in Forza Motorsport 4. And over the coming months, we’ll be bringing you more details on the biggest, baddest, Forza-est (is that even a word?) Forza Motorsport ever. Forza Motorsport 4. Available starting October 11, 2011. Get ready for an entirely new car experience.
